Obituary

    In humble submission to the will of God, we respectfully announce the earthly transition of Mr. Thomas Sims, of Port St. Joe, Florida, on Sunday, August 14, 2022 in the St. Andrews Bay Nursing Home of Panama City, Florida.  He was 71 years old and a life long native of Gulf County, Florida. 

    Thomas was blessed with the breath of life on September 20, 1950 to the parentage of Daniel Sims, Sr., and Annie Jones Sims in Port St. Joe, Florida.  He was one of 14 children raised in the Sims household.  Thomas was preceded in death by parents; his siblings: Daniel Sims, Jr., Augusta Sims, Mary Sims, Thelma Sims, James Sims, Margaret Sims, Harry Sims, and Richard Sims; his mother-in-law Leola Gathers; and brother-in-law: Darion Dawson. .

    He was raised in a Christian home and reared in the Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church of Port St. Joe, Florida. Thomas graduated from Washington High School in Port St Joe where he was known as a great basketball player and was better known as “Hooker”.  After graduating, Thomas worked in many places while providing for his family.  Some of his favorite employers include Claude Alcorn, Jimmy Johnson, and Arizona Chemical.

    He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 49 years: Carolyn (Gathers) Sims of Port St. Joe, Florida;  seven children: Tony Gather, Marchell Gathers, Thomas (Sandra) Sims, Jr, Shameka Sims, LaTreva Thomas, all of Port St. Joe, Florida, Charron Addison, of Tallahassee, Florida, and  Andrew (Tanya) Gainer of Port St. Joe, Florida; 11 grandchildren: Rakeem Quinn, Dakota Quinn, Nijah Quinn, Shakinah Turrell, Thomas Sims III, Tyrek Sims, Skyla Quinn, Donterrius Gathers, Sha-Necia Sims, Kayla Bailey and Brianna Gathers; four sisters: Cynthia (Frankie) Williams of Deactur, Georgia, Ann Sims of Panama City, Florida, Delores Sims of Decatur, Georgia, and Willie Bell Sims of Port St. Joe, Florida;  five sisters-in-law: Sandra (Carlos) Raine and Gwendolyn Dawson of Port St. Joe, Florida, Tracy (Fred) Russ, Doris (Ben) Morning,, and Yvonne Landrie, all of Panama City, Florida; brother-in-law: Steven Gathers of Panama City, Florida; Godson: Payton Smith; God-Daughter: Tasheka Langston; two special friends: John Crosby and George Williams, both of Port St. Joe, Florida; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
