In humble submission to the will of God, we respectfully announce the earthly transition of Mrs. Ossie Mae (Alford) James on October 26, 2022 in the comfort of her home in Chipley, Florida. She was 82 years old and a native of Sumter County, Georgia.
Ossie Mae was born on June 10, 1940 in Americus, Georgia to the late Mack Arthur Alford and Lillie Belle Burnette.
She attended Nunn Industrial High School in Leslie, Georgia. Ossie married Robert L. James, and they eventually moved to Florida.
Ossie, who was of Christian faith, was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who enjoyed talking to and spending time with her family and friends. Ossie had a friendly and giving personality, she spoke from her heart, and she provided insightful information based on her life experiences.
During her spare time, Ossie enjoyed gardening; cooking; listening to gospel music; watching game shows; doing find-a-word puzzles; and reading magazines related to home decorating and organizing, floriculture, and culinary.
Ossie went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by both parents; her spouse, a daughter, Rosia M. James; a son, Nathaniel J. James; daughter-in-law, Laurita James and siblings, Luther, Mack Jr., Pearlman, Otis, Willie Bell and Lillie Ree.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Sons: Robert (Angela) James, Jr. and Arthur (Dorothy) James both of Chipley, Florida; and Melvin James of Dothan, Alabama. Daughters: Valerie (Trent) Jones of Tallahassee, Florida and Sonya James Smith of Midway, Florida. Sister: Bessie Alford of Leslie, Georgia. Sister-in-laws: Mattie Anderson of Detroit, Michigan and Martha Alford of Americus, Georgia. Brother-in-law: Plezy L. Nelson, Sr. of Leslie, Georgia. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
