We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Cooper Funeral Home
In humble submission to the will of God, we respectfully announce the earthly transition of Mrs. Mary Louise (Campbell) Kirkland on May 9, 20222 in Pensacola, Florida. She was 87 years old and a native of Washington County, Florida.
Mary Louise Campbell, a hard working woman who love the Lord and her family. Her parents, the late Robert and Alice Mae Campbell, set the example for their family of seven children. Mary Louise, born on February 4, 1935, was one of five daughters and two sons, all of whom preceded her in death: Kathryn Carolyn Wilson, Altha Mae Lewis, Jennell Fuce, Willie T. Campbell, Sr., Dr. James A. Campbell, Sr., and Annie L. Johnson.
Reared in Chipley, Florida, Mary Louise graduated from Roulhac High School then completed two years of college. February 13, 1957, she and James Kirkland, Sr. were united in Holy Matrimony and to this union two children were born: Rose Mary and James Madison Kirkland, Jr. Her husband preceded her in death in 1996 and her son in 2012.
No stranger to work, Mary Louise was employed in Food Services by the Escambia County School District in the late 60's and 70's. In 1968 she and her husband started and maintained a successful small business, the West Hill Taxi Cab Company in Pensacola, Florida. A true working family, Rose and James, Jr. worked alongside their parents. Mary Louise was the secretay and taxi cab driver. That she was a woman did not stop her from driving; some fares hundreds of miles to a destination nor did it stop her from being in worship on Sunday mornings. Even as a child, her faith was a big part of her life. She cam alive when discussing the Sunday School lesson, and attending 8AM worship services with her daughter at St. John Divine Baptist Church then 11 AM worship services at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, both of Pensacola, Florida. Although her faith was strengthened attending worship there, Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida would always be home. There she gave her life to Christ and was taught the true love of God.
For Mary Louise leaving the labor market didn't mean retirement from life, however she continued to be a loving and supportive mother and aunt. She was a good cook, excellent baker, a woman who enjoyed mowing her yard, nurturing her house plants, and keeping up with the news staying informed.
Recalling Psalms 90:10 "the days of our years are threescore years and ten, and if by reason of strength they be four score years, yetis their strength, labour, and sorrow, for it is soon cut off and we fly away" (KJV). Mary Louise flew away from the troubles of this world on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 10:05 AM in the Consulate Health Care of Pensacola, Florida.
Cherishing her memories and celebrating her life includes her beloved daughter: Rosemary Kirkland of Pensacola, Florida; sister-in-law: Lois Campbell of Nashville, Tennessee; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
