In humble submission to the will of God, we respectfully announce the earthly transition of Mr. John Chaney, Jr. on May 19, 2022 in the Chipola Nursing & Rehab Center of Marianna, Florida. He was 93 years old and a native of Jackson County, Florida.
John was blessed with the breath of life on May 31, 1928 to the parentage of John Chaney, Sr., and Elizabeth (Holmes) Chaney in Myrtle Wood, Alabama. Being reared in a Christian home he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a member of the Bethlehem AME Church of Cottondale, Florida where he sang in the Choir, was a Trustee, and was a member of the Sunday Morning Band. He was employed with CSX Railroad as a Bridge Constructor and with the Florida State Hospital as a Orderly.
John moved to Bonifay, Florida when he was 20 years old and two years later married Margaret Brown and to this union a family was reared and raised in a loving home. His wife Margaret preceded him in death. He loved to play checkers and had a like for fishing and truly enjoyed his life; cherishing every moment with his children and grandchildren. He later married Betty Spears and then Dorothy Ellison.
He leaves to cherish his memories five daughters: Sadie (Ned) Nixon of Summerset, Kentucky, Evelyn (Clifton) Harmon of Chipley, Florida, Elosie Pope of Marianna, Florida, Mary Chaney-Darby of Marianna, Florida, and Temeka (Jennifer) Rollins of Quincy, Florida; three sons: John (Rita) Chaney III of San Diego, California, James (Carolyn) Chaney of Bascom, Florida, and Benjamin (Pamela) Scott of Midway, Florida; sister: Rosiedale Brone of Lendon, Alabama; special friend: Beatrice Wilson of Marianna, Florida; along with a large host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
